On a beautiful Sunday afternoon in March, the Santa Clarita/Antelope Valley (SC/AV) Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc., as part of our phenomenal programming, had the privilege to visit the Kinsey Art Collection as well as experience the historic football field at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, where Los Angeles Rams won Super Bowl LVI.
This was a family event as children, teens, mothers, and fathers were treated to a tour led by Khalil Kinsey, curator of the collection and son of Bernard and Shirley Kinsey. Through his words and the magnificent collection dating back to the 16th Century, Khalil enlightened us to African-American history and art that is rarely shared, and made us all proud of the great work of our people. https://www.thekinseycollection.com/
“There are times in Jack and Jill of America, Inc. that our programming transcends age groups and brings us all together. Our SC/AV Chapter activity touring the Kinsey Art Collection at SoFi Stadium was such an event,” states Chapter President Melissa Delahoussaye. “As Chapter President, I was proud of this event and the tour led by Khalil Kinsey, who brought insight that engaged children, teens, moms and dads alike.
"As a mother," Delahoussaye continues, "the joy of seeing the smiles of everyone, including my own daughter, from the art tour to being and playing on the SoFi field is something that will forever live in my heart.”
“Visiting the Kinsey Art Collection at SoFi Stadium was an amazing experience,” adds Teen President Samara. “There were so many inspirational art pieces that had a story behind it which Mr. Kinsey told with passion and excitement. It was truly phenomenal to learn the history of our unsung African-American heroes that we don’t ordinarily learn about in our primary school systems. To complete our experience, throwing footballs and attempting field goals on the field of the Super Bowl Champs, the LA Rams, was the best!”
The SCV/AV families were in awe of the majestic stadium. The Fathers’ Auxiliary played touch football, while kids and mothers kicked field goals, tossed footballs and ran sprints. It was an exciting time of fellowship and bonding for our chapter in the great city of Inglewood.
